POTENTIOMETRIC TITRATION

What is the principle of potentiometric titration?

During titration, the addition of titrant and change in ionic concentration is measured by the potential of the suitable electrode and the potential of the electrode depends upon the concentration of ions.

What are the Advantages of potentiometric titration?

There are numerous advantages of this titration over ordinary titration. The titration is performed in a coloured solution without an indicator. Potentiometric titration does not require prior knowledge of acid and base strength.

Three categories of potentiometric titration are as follows,

  1. Acid-Base Titration
  2. Oxidation -Reduction titration (Redox)
  3. Precipitation Titration
